The Civil Service Commission regional office XII awarded the Parangal sa Lingkod Bayani to the family of the late Jennifer O. Oñas of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) XII on April 23, 2018.
Pamanang Lingkod Bayani (PLBi) is a tribute to civilian public servants who displayed the character of a bayani in the name of public service. The PLBi confers a posthumous award/citation in the form of plaque, a scholarship program in any of the PASUC-member institutions for the immediate family members and a one-time financial assistance worth One Hundred Thousand Pesos (P100,000.00).
CSC RO XII Regional Director Resurreccion P. Pueyo and Assistant Regional Director Venus D. Ondoy led the awarding together with CHED XII Regional Director Maximo C. Aljibe. Oliver O. Oñas, brother of Ms. Oñas, received the one-time financial assistance and certificate given by the Commission. He was quite emotional while thanking everyone for the honor that was given to his sister.
Jennifer O. Oñas joined CHED XII in 2011 as Administrative Officer III and Records Officer designate. On May 14, 2017, she was shot dead at around 7:00 a.m. at the vicinity of the Department of Education XII in Barangay Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City. She was on her way to work when a gunman approached from behind and shot her at close range. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead at around 8:00 a.m. She became the subject of threats and bribery due to her discoveries of fake Special Orders and Masters Degree credentials.
In his message, Director IV Pueyo challenged everyone to also be a servant hero like Ms. Oñas by ways like exemplifying integrity. Director Aljibe, on the other hand said the life of Ms. Oñas will continue to inspire and remind CHED Employees to value integrity, righteousness and commitment to truth.
