Despite the heavy rain, hundreds of government officials and employees, including Governor Arthur R. Defensor, Jr. of Iloilo Province showed malasakit and commitment as they participated in the Viberun: Takbo para sa mga Servant-Heroes in Iloilo City on September 1, 2024.
The Viberun, spearheaded by the Civil Service Commission Regional Office VI (CSC RO VI), in partnership with the Iloilo City Government, kicked-off the month-long celebration of the 124th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA) in region 6. Proceeds of the activity would go to the Pamanang Lingkod Bayani (PLBI) program of the CSC, which provides financial assistance to families of civil servants who lost their lives while performing their duties.
The program started around 5:30 a.m. where the PCSA video message of Atty. Karlo A.B. Nograles, CSC Chairperson, was aired. This was followed by the Opening Message of Governor Defensor, Jr. who emphasized that the Viberun was an activity that can strengthen physical health and well-being of government officials and employees. A brief orientation about the mechanics of the Viberun was given, followed by warm-up Zumba exercises. CSC RO VI Regional Director Nelson G. Sarmiento then opened the 5 km (male and female) category while Assistant Regional Director Erna T. Elizan opened the 3 km (male and female) category. Government officials and employees, including their families, joined the Viberun, which started and ended at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand, Muelle Loney, Iloilo City.
The top two (2) runners for each category were awarded cash prizes, and partner agencies for the Viberun were also recognized during the program. The event capped with the Closing Message from Assistant Regional Director Elizan.
After the Viberun, winners from various government offices during the Regional Association of National Government Executives (RANGE) Region VI Friendship Games were recognized in an awarding ceremony.
The Viberun and RANGE Friendship Games also form part of CSC RO VI’s commitment to promote health and wellness in the bureaucracy.
